I Slept, Pretended to Sleep, Woke Up

“It is easy to wake up a sleeping person, but it is very difficult to wake up a person who pretends to sleep.” Based on these words, it is quite easy to ignore the living beings we dominate, to turn a blind eye to the injustice done to them… Groups under pressure are animals, as well as disabled people, women, children, or individuals who are subjected to bullying because of their ethnic origin. While each of them is a subject of life, othering and reducing them to an object strengthens this pressure. Twelve animals — cow, deer, shark, fish, dolphin, fox, chimpanzee, hen, fawn, sheep, rat, elephant — printed on paper; embossed dots run across and beside each body. Hung as a 3 × 4 grid in natural wooden frames. Overall 116 × 73.5 cm; each frame 29.5 × 24.5 cm.
