Work
It is easy to wake up a sleeping person, but it is very difficult to wake up a person who pretends to sleep.
Based on these words, it is quite easy to ignore the living beings we dominate, to turn a blind eye to the injustice done to them… Groups under pressure are animals, as well as disabled people, women, children, or individuals who are subjected to bullying because of their ethnic origin. While each of them is a subject of life, othering and reducing them to an object strengthens this pressure.
Print on paper and installation, 116 × 73.5 cm; twelve frames, 29.5 × 24.5 cm each. The embossed dots that run across and beside the animal bodies recall Braille: a surface waiting to be read by touch rather than by sight. Against looking away, it sets touching.
The work was produced during the artist's time at the Department of Painting, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, and shown as a 3 × 4 grid in natural wooden frames.
